Theoretical Framework
(ISBN 978-1-897100-35-6)

The Theoretical Framework is a companion document to the Canadian Language Benchmarks.

This document provides a more in-depth study of the CLB. It provides an overview of the CLB including:

  • global profiles of Benchmarks 1 to 12
  • theoretical background
  • rating scales
  • glossary of terms
  • bibliography
  • In order to make the CLB a practical, usable document, the competencies and standards had to be considerably compressed and simplified. Much of the in-depth discussion of language ability or proficiency omitted from the CLB has been included in this document.
